Living
The Town of Somerset has many living amenities and stunning geographical features. This rural community is bordered by the St Croix river to the west and is just 20 minutes from St. Paul MN. The Apple River which passes through town historically supported the logging industry and mills, but now is a big part of local recreation.
Somerset offers a
variety of housing options and it is
located in one of the fastest growing counties in Wisconsin.
Rural apartments offer
river access or farm field views. Lake-side,
river-side, and prairie neighborhoods feature generous yards. Large
farms
with
crops or cattle, are as common as hobby farms with llamas and horses.
Residents can
make connections
through the library, several local clubs, and organizations that focus
on
sports, history, crafts, and the
outdoors.
Youth groups provide opportunities for building friendships
and skills. Leagues and specialty groups bring people
together for sharing tips while having a lot of fun.
The Senior Center provides meals, scheduled activities and
tour events for older residents. Church
and educational groups
always welcome new members and volunteers. Grace
Place and
Faith House provide shelter and temporary housing to families and
individuals including food, counseling, job search asisstance, and
education. Grace Place also runs the Food Pantry providing
food
in emergency situations.
Three school districts containing public and private schools
serve students in the Town of Somerset.
These districts offer continuing education classes to the public to
encourage lifelong learning. Wisconsin Indianhead Technical
College, UW River Falls, and
several Twin Cities universities are nearby options for advanced
degrees or training for specialty occupations.
Village parks provide playgrounds, fields, and courts for organized sports or family use. The community ice arena hosts youth hockey during the winter and occasional activities during other seasons.
Local events reflect the spirit and
history of this community. Pea Soup Days hosted by the
Somerset
Chamber of Commerce is a summer event celebrating our French Canadian
heritage. The Somerset Scholarship Variety Show is a highly
entertaining showcase of local talent and
humor. The Apple River Run, and Somerset Library 4 Mile
Run encourage families to just "get out" or seriously compete
and both feature fantastic prize drawings.
The community
with two rivers offers excellent fishing, hunting, tubing.
Public
access is available on both the St. Croix and
Apple Rivers as well as many of the lakes.
Water sports
and eagle watching are popular pastimes.
Trails and rural roads along the rivers provide scenic cycling and
snowmobile routes. Somerset also offers excellent public golf
opportunities on two unique
courses. Bristol Ridge Golf Course is a Par 72 Championship
Course with a driving range, pro shop and restaurant.
St.Croix
National Golf Club has easy access off of Hwy 35/64.
